The Kid Who Would Be King Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs
The best King Arthur movie in forever.
The long-awaited second film from Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) is finally here, and unsurprisingly, it's pretty damn good.
Though the marketing for The Kid Who Would Be King didn't do a particularly stellar job of selling the movie - hence its colossal box office failure in the U.S. - critics have mostly been warmly embracing the contemporary re-imagining of Arthurian legend.
Given how many big-budget disappointments 2019 has already served up, it's refreshing to see something a little smaller in scale with less weighted expectations piled on top of it.
The result is a breezily enjoyable adventure flick that'll be an easy sell to kids but also provides plenty of smart, vibrant entertainment for adults too. Despite tanking commercially, it's easy to imagine the film finding a firm cult fanbase once it hits home video.
But if you feel like heading out to the cinema this week, you could do far worse than giving your hard-earned cash to this frequently hilarious and endearing goofy romp...
