The Last Jedi Confirmed As Longest Star Wars Movie Ever
Get ready!
Rian Johnson has confirmed that the runtime for Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be 150 minutes, thus making it the longest ever Star Wars movie.
The reveal came at a press conference in France, with Star Wars News Net's John Hoey reporting the news on Twitter:
This confirms a rumour that broke back in September, when cinema chain CineWorld listed 150 minutes as the film's runtime on their website. It wasn't clear how official that was, but now we know that it was indeed the correct runtime, making the movie exactly two-and-half hours.
Attack of the Clones currently holds the record for the longest Star Wars movie released, with a runtime of 142 minutes, and the original is the shortest at just 121 minutes.
So being long is no indicator of quality, but it does make sense that this one is clocking in the minutes with how much it has to cram in. As we've seen from the trailers the relationship between Rey and Luke is going to take up a hefty chunk alone, and then there's Finn and Rose's machine, Poe, Leia, and the Resistance, and whatever's happening with Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke, and the First Order. It's a lot, basically.
Johnson also confirmed that Rogue One director Gareth Edwards has a cameo, but wasn't telling whether or not Prince William is in it as rumoured.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on December 14 in the UK, and a day later in the US.
