The Last Jedi Rumoured To Be Longest Star Wars Film Ever
It's gonna be a long ride.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is likely to be one of the biggest movies in the entire franchise, and that now looks like it extends to the film's runtime as well.
A new posting on cinema operator Cineworld's website has Episode VIII's length as 150 minutes, or in other words exactly two-and-a-half hours. That's not only a lot longer than the filming it's directly following on from, The Force Awakens (135 mins), but every other movie in the saga as well.
The current longest entry is Attack of the Clones, which clocks in at 142 minutes, while the shortest is the original Star Wars, at just 121. Indeed, the whole original trilogy rank as the three shortest movies delivered, but as the saga has expanded so too have the runtimes.
This does need to be taken with a hefty dose of salt, since there's no official word yet on the movie's length. It could be an estimation, or merely a placeholder, but given Rian Johnson announced post-production was complete last week there's a greater chance of it being correct - and a longer running time does fit with how much this movie has to cram in. Aside from Luke's training of Rey, there's also the Battle of Crait, Finn and Rose's mission to Canto Bight, new characters to introduce, and a whole bunch of stuff with the villains that we don't know much about yet.
We should find out more soon though, with the new trailer expected to drop on October 9. We can expect tickets to go on sale around then too, following the pattern of The Force Awakens, and the hype-machine to go into overdrive for the last couple of months before the December 15 release date.
