Us Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

It's no Get Out, but still pretty good.

Jordan Peele's new horror film Us hits cinemas worldwide this weekend, and it's rather unsurprisingly been winning rave reviews from the vast majority of critics so far.

While some of the five-star notices might feel a tad on the overzealous side, Us is a very solid follow-up to Peele's Oscar-winning Get Out, even if it's going to be unavoidably hurt by the inevitable, endless comparisons to that sure-fire genre classic.

Peele's sophomore effort never quite slams into the same brilliantly subversive gear, but when considered among the typical standard of studio-released horror movies, this is a highly entertaining offering for the most part.

It's unlikely to become quite the same pop-culture and awards phenomenon that Get Out was, but it nevertheless cements Peele's talent for boundary-pushing work that asks its audience to pay attention and actively engage with the material.

It's definitely worth lowering your expectations a tad if you're expecting something on the level of Peele's previous film, but all the same, Get Out is a (mostly) entertaining follow-up...
