Once upon a time, Patty Jenkins was developing Thor 2 at Marvel Studios and was set to direct. And then, pretty suddenly, she wasn't anymore. Eventually, Alan Taylor directed the film, and rumours were flying around that Natalie Portman was pretty hacked off by Jenkins' departure. Now, in the finest display of irony since I went to my cutlery drawer for a knife and found ten thousand spoons instead, Warner Bros. have closed a deal with Jenkins for her to take over Wonder Woman. I can't take the irony. It's just like that time it rained on my wedding day. The Hollywood Reporter scored the scoop on Jenkins' appointment, noting that hiring her "helps Warners avoid what some saw as a gender bias against women directors helming superhero tentpoles." She would have been the first female director in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, now she's set to be the first female director playing in the DC Entertainment sandpit. Jenkins has released one feature to date, the Aileen Wuornos biopic Monster, but like Michelle MacLaren, she has a lot of TV experience. Wonder Woman is set for release in 2017, so Jenkins should find herself on set later this year. Good times
