X-Men: Supernova - Simon Kinberg In Talks To Direct Dark Phoenix Saga
The longtime X-Men writer/producer could be the man to finally do Jean Grey justice.
Although they've seen greater success in their solo adventures recently, with Deadpool a massive hit and Logan receiving widespread critical acclaim prior to release, Fox are still pressing ahead with another X-Men team movie.
Supposedly titled X-Men: Supernova, it'll reportedly tackle the iconic Dark Phoenix Saga, which was butchered in The Last Stand and then hinted towards in last year's Apocolaypse.
Now, it seems, they've found the man to direct it. With Bryan Singer not returning, Collider reports that longtime X-producer Simon Kinberg will step up to helm the movie, which he is also writing. It makes a lot of sense, given Kinberg has been around the universe for a long time, even if his scripts don't always yield the best results (he wrote Days of Future Past, but also penned The Last Stand and Apocalypse).
He's never directed before either, but he does know his way around the studio system and this world in particular, so it's not that big a gamble.
There were hints even before Apocalypse's release that they'd look to redo the beloved Dark Phoenix storyline after, which chronicles the fall of Jean Grey, so this certainly fits with all the teases over the last few months. As Collider note, though, it remains to be seen whether Fox will move forward with Kinberg's script, so nothing is confirmed yet.
What we do know is that Sophie Turner will be back, telling HeyUGuys that she'd be shooting an X-Men movie this year - presumably that's Supernova, and not Josh Boone's New Mutants.
