10 Absurdly Hard DLC Modes You Never Beat

Why do we buy these DLC? Only to suffer?

Generally speaking, a game's downloadable content tends to be more difficult than the core experience because it's for those who have played it through and desire more. By this stage, you're likely to be pretty accomplished with the title since you've reached it's end. As such, some of the best DLC out there tests your experience by providing an additional mountain that's worth climbing

However, there are unfortunately some that go several steps too far and produce new modes and challenges that feel like you've just run into a sturdy brick wall.

Your reaction to this may vary depending on your taste for difficulty. Perhaps you relish the chance to overcome impossible odds. More likely, some of the following will make you question why you even hit that "download" button to begin with, or maybe even how you feel about the entire experience.

The new modes on this list are just some examples of DLC that the majority of players were never able to overcome and, considering how brutal they are, it's completely understandable why.

10. Pure Time Trials - Mirror's Edge

Mirror’s Edge may not be perfect but DICE’s parkour-focused action adventure has a very clear idea of what it is. The only things that truly matter are movement and momentum.

Whilst the game became a cult classic in the years following its release, it did catch some complaints for linearity in its main roof-jumping campaign. This is something the developers played with a little more in the free Pure Time Trials update.

Pure Time Trials takes the player away from the cityscape and into a reality composed of non-Euclidean geometry. As such, these surrealist maps allow for a greater freedom of movement as there’s no obvious path forwards and they’re able to bend and turn in any direction, often vertically.

Each map’s top mark requirement as a time trial are as brutal as you’d expect, coming in around at a heart-pounding 60 seconds on average meaning that hesitation is not advised. You must understand your surroundings and keep pace. But, because of the structure of the stages, it’s not just about reaching the finish line. Half the battle of beating is plotting out the best route, making use of tight turns, intense wall runs and leaps of faith.

You can almost smell the rubber of Faith’s shoes burning after the first two-dozen failed attempts.
