The Nintendo GameCube is arguably one of the greatest home consoles ever released, boasting a tremendous library of undeniably excellent games, many of which couldn’t be played anywhere else. It had its detractors, certainly – including the millions of players who purchased the PlayStation 2 instead – but regardless, there was something about the console that just stood out, set it apart from the crowd, and gave it a unique sense of personality.

The games were especially great, defining our childhoods, and cementing the legacy of the console for years to come. After all, while it couldn’t offer the same range as Sony’s beast, it did continually deliver in terms of gameplay and storytelling, providing some of the more memorable moments in Nintendo's storied and treasured history.

Nowadays, the GameCube is remembered by some with incredible fondness, and for good reason. As such, here are ten awesome, unforgettable moments that defined our time with the console, and will never be forgotten…

10. Resident Evil 4 - Surviving The Village Raid

Resident Evil 4 – the fourth instalment in the franchise – was way ahead of its time.

In the game, players assume the role of Leon S. Kennedy – a special operative tasked with rescuing the president’s daughter from a sinister Spanish cult, Los Illuminados. Alone, vastly outnumbered, and completely oblivious to the situation, Leon is soon infected with a lethal virus, leaving him with precious little time to make his escape.

Released in 2005, the game represented an unprecedented step forward in regards to animations, visuals, and immersive environments. It also featured one of the single most grueling opening sequences in gaming history – the village raid, a nightmarish assault in which the entire town becomes hostile, and begins hunting you down, knocking down doors and smashing windows, thirsty for blood. Besides the villages, there’s also Dr. Salvador – a hulking, chainsaw-wielding, sack-wearing monster, capable of enduring a heck of amount of damage. Oh, and he kills you in one hit.

It’s was a ballsy way of opening the game – especially seeing as how the game was a huge departure for the series – and as a result, is a standout in the history of the series, as well as the console.
