While players aren’t quite through with everything 2017 has to offer yet, eyes have already been cast to the plethora of huge releases coming out next year. A stacked release window by all accounts (provided there are no delays), 2018 should see massive titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Anthem and Far Cry 5 all hit shelves, but there are still a few unknown quantities that could be thrown into the mix.

Because although players can expect certain secret games to be announced over the next few months, with a new Call of Duty and probably an Assassin’s Creed being prepped for release, there are a few monumental unannounced big hitters that could also end up dropping before the end of 2018.

Returning franchises, remakes and entirely new IPs: thanks to leaks, rumours and educational guesses, you can start to put together which games are coming next year that publishers and developers don’t want you to know about, and if even only a fraction of them turn out to be true, they could cement 2018 as one of the best gaming years of the decade so far.

10. Syphon Filter

It’s hard to believe that Syphon Filter has been lying dormant for over 10 years now. Once regarded as one of Sony’s best action series, a myriad of half-sequels and portable tie-ins drove the once-promising franchise into the ground.

Fortunately though, as fans have continued to make noise about how much they want to see a new sequel, Sony seem to have been quietly paying attention. Consequently, a recent trademark application for Syphon Filter indicates that the company is gearing up to unveil something to do with the franchise soon, potentially for a release next year.

The thing is, with the sheer amount of games that Sony have in the pipeline - Spider-Man, God of War, The Last of Us 2 and Days Gone just to name a few - it’s difficult to see where Syphon Filter could squeeze in.

Still, the company wouldn’t have submitted a fresh trademark for the series if they didn’t have some sort of project in mind, meaning that a new Syphon Filter game next year, whether that’s a sequel, a VR title or a remastered re-release, is looking likely.
