Trophies and achievements make the modern gaming world go round, for though they're ultimately "pointless" digital keepsakes, they do nevertheless help developers drive engagement, with the mere sound of a popped trophy or 'cheev offering players a basically Pavlovian dopamine hit.

It's a high chased by achievement hunters the world over, and with so many players keenly hoovering up the intangible trophies, it gives us all a ton of data about how video games are being played nowadays.

Trophies can tell us a lot about gaming habits, and while much of this won't be terribly surprising, there are nevertheless some absolutely ridiculous shockers nestled within all that info.

And so, as a sequel to our recent article on the very subject, here are 10 more mind-boggling video game trophy stats you won't believe.

From further cementing just how few people actually finish the games they buy to the impressive retention rates of FromSoftware releases, and a certain recent PS5 exclusive which rocks an unprecedented Platinum completion, these trophy/achievement stats are all totally wild.

While trophy data is far from a perfect science, it nevertheless pools from such a large sample size that its implications should absolutely be taken seriously...

10. Over 50% Of Players Didn't Beat Bloodborne's First Mandatory Boss, But 25% Beat The Last Boss

It's always fun to look at the trophies for FromSoftware games, because they routinely indicate that while there's a high number of players who will bounce off their challenging action titles in short order, there's also a dedicated chunk who will see it through to the end no matter what.

And this is certainly true of Bloodborne, where 55.5% of players never even beat the first mandatory boss, Father Gascoigne. While that might lead you to believe the game's overall completion rate would be ludicrously low, that's not quite true.

As it turns out, an impressive 24.9% of players have beaten the game's last necessary boss, Mergo's Wet Nurse. This would be a fair completion rate for any challenging game, but Bloodborne? Yeesh.

Basically, we can infer from this that if you stuck with the game long enough to beat Father Gascoigne, there was a solid change you were all in for the long haul.

And of course, we can't entirely ignore that Bloodborne was given away for "free" on PS+, likely ensuring that many casual players jumped in, messed around for 30 minutes, couldn't get into the game, and then promptly dipped before they even reached Father Gascoigne, let alone were able to kick his ass.
