From Horizon to NieR, Nioh to Crash Bandicoot, the vast majority of 2017's status as being 'the best year of the generation so far' is predominantly down to Sony finally pulling their finger out and unleashing a bevy of triple-A exclusives. Sans Breath of the Wild, of course.

Because let's be frank - nobody was getting all starry-eyed at the likes of Knack, The Order: 1886 or even more lamentably, Ratchet & Clank, forever making console owners fall into the welcoming arms of third-party releases to justify their purchases. Indeed, mammoth releases like Overwatch, The Witcher 3 and DOOM are all well and good - and there are a couple of fantastic multi-platform releases on this list too - but there's a reason you align to either Camp Sony or Camp Microsoft: You want the exclusives.

It's a mentality Nintendo are absolutely killing with in the console race despite some far heftier competition, purely down to designing a system that expedites the process of playing games - alongside peppering the Switch's library with a handful of key exclusives.

Back on the PS4 front, yes we've felled robo-dinos with Aloy and sliced our name through the demonic hordes in Nioh, but what else is available on Sony's little black box that you need to check out?
