10 Things NOBODY Wants To Admit About Battle Royale
Is the genre just a flash in the pan?
In the current age of video games, it is almost impossible to go anywhere without yet another Battle Royale popping up to remind you that, no, they're not dead yet, and yes, you're wrong for not playing one right now.
But not everything is perfect with the poster boy of modern day multiplayer. The BR genre is rife with problems that seem to go unanswered by both its players and its detractors, everywhere in the world and across each subsequent release.
Obviously the only solution is to crank out yet another bloodthirsty free for all, with bog-standard cartoonish graphics in place of any evolution on the gameplay side.
Whether you love them or hate them, Battle Royale just can't seem to be toppled from its place at the top of the multiplayer food chain - but they be can analysed and moaned about in a way that might eventually, somehow, make the whole thing more palatable to all involved.
10. The "Loot, Kill, Die, Repeat" Loop Is INCREDIBLY Fatiguing
It's always the same: You drop in, pick up whatever scraps you can find, pray that you find something decent instead of that same pistol again, run for 5 minutes, inevitably die to someone you didn't even see.
This is your average game of any of the currently available choices on the market.
Sure, there's that 1 in 100 chance you'll win and feel a sense of personal satisfaction that can only come from proving your superiority to a group of strangers on the internet, but most of the time that isn't going to happen. Most games will end with a few kills and hopefully a place in the top 10, but hardly ever that coveted victory.
Then it's time to do it all again. Back to the main menu you go...
Repetition isn't always the end of the world, but in a video game it runs the risk of burning out its player base and making the genre stale. The only reason Battle Royale hasn't fallen victim to this is due to its hugely addictive quality; that "one more game" attitude. It's strong within the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends' player bases, but for how long?
