10 Video Games That Fans And Critics Will Never Agree On

Mass Effect 3 is NOT a 9/10 game. It's that simple.

Since the first day a writer decided to use a number between 1 and 10 to describe their overall impressions of something like Pong, there have been disagreements between gamers and critics.

It might not be entirely accurate to say that the two side are in a constant state of debate over every last game - we'll always share different opinions through subjectivity alone - but as a general rule, reviews are often treated as an indication of quality, as opposed to the final word.

Every once in a while, though, a game comes along that doesn't just cause a few scuffles between gamers and critics; it serves as the catalyst to a full-blown war. Years later, the mere mention of the following titles can re-open old wounds and start the debate once more.

The only real question is: When it comes to these games, which side are you on?

10. Fallout 4

Metacritic Score: 87

User Score: 6.4

Why The Difference?

Given that Fallout fans had become rabid with anticipation leading up to its release, Fallout 4 should have been a surefire hit for developer Bethesda. At the end of the day, all they really had to do was give everyone more of the same formula they love and reap the considerable fan praise that would follow.

Naturally, then, they did the exact opposite.

Initial reviews of Fallout 4 suggested that it may indeed be the greatest in the series so far, but some gamers disagreed with this assessment, simply on the basis that it skewed far more towards wider appeal, and felt less like a Fallout game.

The basic argument revolved around accusations that Bethesda removed many role-playing aspects - the less said about the dialogue system, the better - in an effort to broaden its appeal and simplify the experience. However, when you're in possession of one of the most highly-regarded RPG experiences of all time, chances are your fans really aren't going to appreciate any change.

It’s easy to see why critics fawned over Fallout 4 as it is - objectively speaking – a pretty well-made game. However, some gamers were not so easily amused.
