10 Video Games You Play For Hours And STAY A Beginner

I swear I should be good at this game by now!

A major appeal of video games is the chance to escape ordinary life and live out an exciting power fantasy. Because nothing says, "Life is great, and so am I," like ploughing through waves of enemies with ease.

However, not all games are created equal, as there are plenty out there that point blank refuse to make players feel special. Instead, they make you feel like you've never even played a video game before.

The titles on this list fit that category like a glove. Some of them throw complex mechanics your way, whereas others come with convoluted narratives and a lack of clarity. Either way, each one will make you feel like you're fighting an uphill battle for hours on end.

Now, apologies to all you FromSoft fans, but don't expect to see any Soulsbourne or Soulslike games on the list. Names like Dark Souls, Lies of P, or Bloodborne would usually dominate an article like this. As such, they shall be moved aside to allow some lesser known titles their time in the limelight.

You'll need all your wits and patience to survive these games.

10. Tunic

When looking at Tunic, you wouldn't be wrong for thinking it looks like a nice, cosy adventure game. But you will have a rude awakening when you start playing it, as you'll instantly be left thinking, "Um, what the hell am I supposed to do?"

Tunic has an ingenious approach to gameplay as it relies heavily on the player to figure things out for themselves. It invites you to explore and experiment, with no button prompts telling you to "jump" or "hit this," no marker telling you where to go, and no signposting.

You figure the game out by translating old gaming instruction manuals that help you discover the controls organically. It takes some time, but piecing the world's lore and the mechanics together is infinitely rewarding.

Of course, this leads to a lengthy period (which never truly ends) where you feel like you're stumbling around in the dark, trying to figure out what to do. Ultimately, the more you play the game, the more Eureka moments you'll have, but there's a sense even deep into the game that there's plenty you don't know.
