I'd wager that right now, you're playing through a good two to three games at once. So unrelenting has the first quarter of 2017 been, it's a resounding return to form for the gaming industry overall after an occasionally lacklustre generation - though that doesn't mean the rest of the year has nothing in store.

Quite the contrary, thanks to a number of projects being greenlit at the start of the generation - and the average turnaround time on a video game being three years - there are scores of titles about to descend.

From Switch-justifying Nintendo exclusives to long-awaited "Please don't mess this up" sequels like The Last of Us 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2, there'll be a LOT to talk about come Game of the Year. Even the formerly-known-as 'indie scene' is a completely different beast these days; a hybrid of Kickstarter-backed projects, larger production budgets and better access to high-end software resulting in a revival of the forgotten 'B-tier' of gaming - one all 90s gamers will remember as doling out many of their childhood favourites.
