However it gets remembered, through good or bad times, Resident Evil has been going for twenty five years. That's right, the very first outing for the S.T.A.R.S team came out in the same year that Tomb Raider did; 1996.

That's twenty-five years (and as many titles) of jump scares, ridiculous dialogue, convoluted plots and a lot of twisted monstrosities on our screens. And that's just the games.

Such is the power of Capcom's behemothic series that it's jumped to the silver screen, somewhat successfully, with both live-action and CGI movies. Books, remakes, vinyl soundtracks... the lot.

But one thing Resident Evil isn't is one-note. Players have seen the series evolve, devolve, mutate and present itself in a myriad of different perspectives and waves. It's also seen cancellations, changes, and ideas left on the cutting room floor (some for the best, as you'll see).

Of course, over a long history, fans might have missed a few things. Like subtle respects to directors, averted controversial subject matters and more Queen references.

So join us as we look back over a quarter century's worth of mind-blowing facts you didn't know about this beloved series.

25. We Do It!

Starting off with something wholesome: when it was announced that Resident Evil 2 was getting a remake, the developers were excited. Producer Yoshiki “H” Hirabayashi went as far as promoting the announcement with a mistranslated "We do it!" t-shirt, bless him.

Well, the internet being what it was, saw fit to rib Capcom for this, so Capcom decided to double down and have fun with it.

Players will notice the bust in the RCPD waiting room (after our hero opens the shutter) and think nothing of it. The keen-eyed, however, will spot a nicely inscribed motto on the plaque.

The motto in question?

..."We do it!"

You certainly did, Capcom.
