Normally when a new variant of a PlayStation is released, the web is rife with discussion. For the most part, this discussion would be along the lines of "What the hell was Sony thinking?" Gems in the past include; "What the hell was Sony thinking when it designed a sliding disc tray cover for the Super Slim PS3?" or "What the hell was Sony thinking when it turned the iconic original PlayStation into the infantile-looking PSOne?". But there was no such fanfare for the CUH-12xx, a new variant of the PlayStation 4 that Sony has just silently released in Europe. The updated PS4 brings with it some minor cosmetic and internal changes, which for the most part probably don't warrant swapping your current PS4 out for one. With that said, there are enough positive tweaks in the CUH-12xx that if you're thinking of buying a PS4, then it might be worthwhile to hold off until you can get your hands on this new - and slightly improved - PS4 model. Before you get your hopes up, I feel obliged to say here, now, that there is no reverse compatibility on this new unit. But hey, who needs that when you have the subscription-based PlayStation Now streaming service and pricey 'Remasters' of all your favourite games, right? Here are all the changes you'll find in Sony's latest variant of the PlayStation 4.
