5 Changes You Need To Know About The New PS4 Model
5. The LED Strip On The Chassis Is Shorter
One of the first people to pick up the CUH-1200 PS4 was Neogaf forum member OCD Guy, who said that the LED strip light running over the top of the new model is shorter than it was in the old one. This is the first of two features on the new PS4 model which suggests that Sony is looking to cut down on the manufacturing costs of the PS4. While a bit of strip light may not sound like an massive expenditure, it's certainly cheaper for Sony to just use more plastic instead. From a design point of view, the shortened light seems like a bit of a downgrade. Having the LED span along most of the groove in the PS4 gave it an elegant appearance, with the light getting gradually dimmer towards the back of the console. In the picture above, it looks like the light is now contained only towards the front of the console, making it look like a pretty bog-standard LED.
