5 Classic Games That Deserve Remakes

By Aaron Neil Scanlon /

It's an interesting perspective that gamers who've been playing classics like Final Fantasy VII, can still enjoy them, with that same nostalgia and brilliance that they initialing felt when they first started playing it. Sadly for most younger generation of gamers, these titles show no appeal. As the progression of the games industry overshadows them, examples like out-dated graphics, clunking gameplay and harder difficulty. It's imperative that these classics, which layed the foundation for future franchises, be remembered and hopefully invoke curiosity in the new generation of gamers, to show what gaming used to be like and how innovative the past was. But we can't forget the most important factor for remaking these games, to rekindle fans nostalgia. It's fair to say some of these games could do with a make over, improving upon factors that let it down. So I've complied a list I strongly believe is deserving of remaking, that will exceed the original.

5. Robocop vs The Terminator

I've always been a major fan of franchises pitted against other, my first experience was Robocop Versus The Terminator on the Sega Mega Drive. It blew my mind away, as I couldn't contemplate either of them fighting against each other. The game was brilliant, it captured the retro world of both franchises, as well being blatantly influenced by Robocop's uber-violence. Sadly both haven't fought again since 1994, but with game franchises like Mortal Kombat vs DC, Street Fighter vs Tekken and Alien vs Predator, its time the machines rose. For what genre it should be, it has to be FPS. With both of their cybernetic interfaces, they can be used as targeting mechanics to highlight their assailants, providing a cool immersion into the cyborgs perception. In the movies, Robocop and Terminator are basically walking tanks, which the remake should incorporate. Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine took that approach when making their hero, giving a sense of invulnerability as bullets recoiled from the marine's armor, whilst charging into the fray of battle like a bulldozer. This is how Robocop and Terminator should feel when playing these impossible to kill icons.
