Fighting games seem to either be hit or miss. Many different factors weigh into the final decision of whether or not the game is even worth your time. Is the game easy to play, but hard to master? Will you be learning new tactics and combos a few months down the line or is what you see what you get? There has been an impressive amount of gaming experiences that found gamers utilizing their favorite characters in battle royales against a wide variety of well known comic book characters and gaming icons. With NetherRealm's newest entry for Mortal Kombat they provided gamers with the opportunity to download one of film's most notorious horror icons, Freddy Krueger. Granted, it wasn't the classic imagining of the character many were hoping for, but it still proved that horror characters could work in the fighting genre. What follows is a quick look at five ways we believe that gaming could utilize these cinematic horror icons, and even include some of our communities' most beloved horror gaming experiences.
5. Impressive Cross-Over Roster
Surely, the hardest aspect of creating a game like this would be to include an expansive roster that encompasses multiple crossovers from both film and gaming. With rights spanning out across multiple studios and companies, figuring out which characters they would be able to use would consume much of the pre-development time. Yet, if a development team was able to secure both iconic horror film characters, as well as gaming legends, they would have an impressive foundation to build from. Essentially, we gamers would be treated to a fighting game that included iconic horror movie icons, as well as a few of the most well known horror characters from our favorite games. Imagine Jason taking on Nemesis, or a Xenomorph going claw-to-claw with a Necromorph. There is a great amount of potential for a horror fighting game, and having a great roster is one of the first places they need to start. Perhaps the best starting point I can think of is the game TerrorDrome. I feel I would be doing an injustice to the gaming community to not mention the impressive indie project.
