Assassin's Creed Valhalla CONTROVERSY - 30FPS On Xbox SX?!
Performance or resolution?
It happens every console cycle, but the latest victim to the ongoing conversation of resolution vs performance, is Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Coming from Eurogamer Portugal after speaking with Ubisoft, the company can only "guarantee" that AC Valhalla "will run at least 30 FPS" on Xbox Series X. They do follow up noting that the big takeaway is loading time, but without gameplay demos the difference remains to be seen.
Both these discoveries will likely apply to the PS5 as well, and the emerging controversy surrounds all mention of a 60fps future for both the Series X and PS5 - one of the key differentiators of "the next generation" overall.
Besides the marketing moniker of "the world's most powerful console", Microsoft have promised no SX exclusives for the first three to four years. Whilst Assassin's Creed is third-party, this general sensibility paints a clear picture: You're going to be more than okay sticking with the hardware you already own.
Whilst we wait for followup comments or actual gameplay demos, the question remains:
Why would you buy a game on next generation hardware, if all that can be offered are better load times or a 4K resolution?
