Electronic Arts and DICE look set to release their next instalment of the popular Battlefield franchise. Two years out from the initial release of Battlefield V, fans are craving a new experience in the first-person shooter-series, after a solid but unspectacular last chapter.
Arriving to consoles in November 2018, the fifth Battlefield title was based on World War II and followed a continuation of Battlefield 1, a First World War themed precursor. The game received a mixed bag of reviews, with several sites reserving criticism for the game's multiplayer. Ultimately, EA provided another fun and explosive shooter which immersed gamers in a WWII setting that would always create an enticing environment, despite its perceived historical accuracies.
However, the release certainly lacked the same level of innovation and star quality we saw in Battlefield 1, leading to some rumours of a rushed development and altered plans inside DICE. Three years on, the question is whether the game developing giants have had enough time to create a compelling Battlefield game, ready for release next year.

7. Release Date
While an official release date for Battlefield 6 remains unconfirmed, some hints from EA have made an educated guess on when fans will be able to experience the shooter possible. In a 2019 earnings call, the publisher provided a timeframe for when we can expect the release to hit the high street shelves.
They revealed the sixth title of the popular series will come out in the fiscal year for 2022. This provides us with a window from April 2021 to March 2022, lending itself to rumours which suggest a late-year release, ahead of the Christmas surge in shopping next year.
“Bringing out Battlefield [in 2020], where the new console base is fairly small, doesn’t really give justice to the potential of the title, and so that’s part of our driver in moving the title into fiscal 22,” EA said, adding that it targets “...new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms.”
It appears fans will have a year to enjoy other titles, before stepping into what we hope is a fresh and innovative Battlefield experience in 2021.
