It's happening! After nearly nine years of fans clamouring for it, Call of Duty is finally going back to its roots with the reveal of Call of Duty: World War II. With the trailer showing a variety of gameplay scenarios from the obigatory Saving Private Ryan D-Day landing to flamethrowers and both tank and aerial warfare, there's plenty to get excited about.

With that said, it's almost impossible to create the ultimate wishlist for features players want to return, as many people have their own individual weapon preferences, game modes and killstreaks they love. The same goes for campaign features - some will have loved QTEs and Strike Force segments of gameplay, others will have hated them.

Since every person's journey through Call of Duty is wildly different, from the PC original right the way through to 2016's maligned Infinite Warfare, this is something of a "best bits" from one gamer's perspective. If you think there's something drastically missing on this list, let us know in the comments below.

With that said, for COD to secure its future, Activision need to pull from the past...

It's still up in the air as to whether the 48 player count is for the Headquarters (think Destiny's Tower, a hub area) or that there'll actually be the chance to exceed the traditional 18 players in the larger game modes like War or Ground War.

Elsewhere it also (sadly) seems unlikely that there'll be the chance to pilot planes: firstly that remains the niche Battlefield can fill and secondly it would take away the unique tidal flow that successful COD matches have.

But the 2008 classic World at War had Seelow, Roundhouse and Downfall - all maps that gifted quick moving players with tanks that could devastate an enemy team. Matches would descend into frantic cat and mouse chases as quicker infantry would try to outsmart and bomb the slowly rotating tanks.

Hopefully there'll be at least a pair of maps with tank warfare hidden within, as the tanks featured quite extensively as part of the reveal trailer during campaign segments.
