Fallout 76: 10 Take-Aways From Bethesda's E3 Conference

This year’s biggest game just got a whole lot more detail...

After Fallout 76 was teased a few weeks ago, people knew that it would be showcased heavily at Bethesda’s E3 conference. They weren’t mistaken.

Todd Howard, king of Bethesda Game Studios, stole the stage at the conference as he took a deep look at the game, both at its lore and mechanics. That is, after he teased a Skyrim Alexa Edition which, honestly, looked pretty great.

A lot of information was given out, and it seems to be quite experimental in some of the ways it’s deviating from Fallout games; in other ways it’s sticking close to the tenets of the franchise.

It’s clear that, like 2015 and 2011, 2018 is going to be a year that Bethesda has a lock down when it comes to big blockbuster games and award ceremonies. There is so much about Fallout 76 to get our teeth into that it was hard to narrow down to just 10 items.

10. The Fallout Universe At 76

The trailer showed dwellers from a control vault beginning to explore the wasteland as a form of prequel to the existing games in the series.

Many institutions we know and love aren't present or active yet - there will be no New Californian Republic, Institute, or Brotherhood of Steel - although a trailer heavily implies that the origin of this latter group will be part of the story.

Since no games have been this early in the Fallout lore, Bethesda have an opportunity to branch out a lot in terms of monsters, level design and worldbuilding, and it's likely the game will focus more on newer creations than older fan-favourite weapons, items and characters.

It would be odd, however, if there were no references to the way the world is in later games. There must be a reason all the crazy monsters we see aren't in Fallout 3, which is relatively close by geographically.
