GTA V: 5 Things We Love (And 5 Things We Hate)

By Jamie Simpson /

Grand Theft Auto. It's a game series that has defined an entire genre for many years, offering players the chance to inhabit gigantic worlds, all of which are filled with intriguing characters, mocking humour and catchy soundtracks. With Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games set their sights even higher and for the most part they've succeeded, although there are still elements of the game which feel underdeveloped and poorly implemented, and some which just plain missed the mark. Read on to find out what I've deemed to be the 5 best - and 5 worst - elements inherent to GTA V on the whole. Don't forget to let us know in the comment section below regarding your own thoughts as to what made GTA V great and not so great...

5 Things We Love

5. The Environment/Geography

After the release of GTA: San Andreas, fans came to expect a certain diversity within the game's landscape. They wanted a map which would allow them the opportunity to rampage through both urban and rural locations with reckless abandon. In GTA IV, this aspect was severely lacking, with Liberty City at the fore and very little else included to accompany it. It would have been tolerable had the city been carved into distinctive areas, but the reality was that much of it looked the same.

With GTA V, a lot of work has been put into producing more variety when it comes to setting - and it shows. It is perhaps disappointing to some that San Fierro and Las Venturas were not included, however Los Santos is a sprawling metropolis far bigger than its previous incarnation, which means additional cities are not really required. In addition to the size of the map, it seems even bigger than the previous games' versions since it is alive with activity - a point we will come back to later on. From the heights of Chilliad, through the sun baked airstrips of Sandy Shores, to the drug dens on Grove Street, there is plenty to keep gamers engaged throughout both the single and multiplayer.
