Mortal Kombat 11: Ranking EVERY Fatality So Far

Sub-Zero's new one is *kisses fingers*

By Neil Gray /

Over its 27 year lifespan, Mortal Kombat has never been afraid to push the proverbial envelope. It doesn't skimp on the blood or the guts, and if there's an excuse for some envelope-pushing gore, MK is the first in line. And why shouldn't it be? These are the things that made Mortal Kombat the massive franchise it is today, and at the top of that splatter-filled pile has always been the fatalities.

From day one there has been head-popping and bowel-removing with so, so many decapitations, and while some have been great (and others terrible), each new version of Mortal Kombat comes with newer off-the-wall ways to liquefy your friends.

With MK 11 on the horizon, it's time to take a look at what's on offer via the official trailer, sneak peak gameplay and every other piece of footage out there. NetherRealm's latest fatalities have embraced a comic level of violence that's almost in the Itchy & Scratchy mould, but which is the Mokap of the bunch, and who is Shao Khan?

8. Raiden

Raiden has come a long way since his head popping antics in the original Mortal Kombat. The pinnacle of which was his eye exploding oh-boy-that-has-got-to-hurt finisher in the 2015 version of the game. So how does this one match up?

Well in all honesty it's not as good. It may be more impressive but it seems to lack the "HOT DAMN!!" factor of it's predecessor.

Starting out by electrocuting his foe and the pulling them limb from limb he quickly squishes them into a tiny ball before blowing the remains apart. It looks good and would obviously hurt like hell but it lacks something.

Maybe it is the fact that by now and being eleven games into the franchise you'd hope a lot more thought would be put into The Thunder God's fatality but it is not to be and as Raiden is one of the stalwarts of the MK Universe you can't help but feel a little disappointed that he always seems to get treated as an after thought when it comes to ingenious ways to kill your opponent.

Perhaps they'll finally get it right in MK 12.
