New Pokemon Snap is set to launch for Nintendo Switch on April 30th, as a sequel to the 1999 Nintendo 64 classic. The idea is simple:

You go through the in-game world, but instead of capturing Pokemon, you take photos of them in the wild!

The original was a huge hit at the height of Pokemon fever and saw you take on the role of Snap who featured in the TV series.

It was a very bold title which was hugely different to anything else in the series, but it worked. It is a part of the Pokemon universe that Nintendo hasn’t looked at again in over 20 years. However, given the resurgence of the series in recent years, it is the perfect time to come back to this spin off.

Pokemon Go has introduced the concept of taking pictures of Pokemon in real-world environments and Snap will carry this on. It will bring fans old and new to a different type of game adding to the switch titles brought out over the last two years in Let’s Go and Shield/Sword.

What details do we know ahead of the game's release at the end of April?

8. Takes Place In The Lental Region

Snap will take place in the new Lental Region, which has never featured in the Pokemon Universe before. In the main series, each new game has brought with it a new region such as Kanto, Johto or Galar. The New Pokemon Snap will be no different and this should allow it to be set up in a way that best suits the unique gameplay.

No further information about the region itself has been revealed but it has a wide variety of areas that should allow for all types of Pokemon to be discovered in their natural areas.

So far it is has been confirmed that levels will include tropical, desert, beach and an underwater setting. The original game featured seven levels, but given the number of Pokemon that are available to find, there should be a lot more this time around.
