With Pokémon Sun & Moon due to arrive in November this year, we've already been given a good look at the three new battlers we'll be offered when our adventure in the Alola region finally begins. Having seen them in action across a couple of trailers, we can be confident that at least two of the new starters look pretty darn awesome. Sorry, Popplio fans...

But, before we get a chance to make our next big choice and decide which Alola starter we'll begin our journey with, it's time to take a look back at the partner Pokémon we've been offered in that past six generations. Many disparaging remarks have been made about the way starter Pokémon have decreased in quality since generation one, but is that really true?
