Resident Evil 6: 4 Reasons To Ignore The Hate

worthy of three and a half stars. And for me, there are multiple reasons to ignore the indignant hatred that some reviewers and commenters have spouted in the day or two since reviews started to appear...

1. Genres Change...

It has to be noted, and accepted that genre games can and do change: yes, Resident Evil was once a purely horror survival game, including puzzles and slow-lurching zombies, but that model could never have sustained as many sequels as have been released. Resident Evil 4 saw a fundamental change in the way the game played, with a noticable shift towards action that Resident Evil 5 and now 6 picked up and ran with, adding more diverse gameplay -especially in terms of the latest game - and breathing life into the franchise. Personally, I didn't want to play another slow-moving, puzzle heavy Resident Evil game any more than I want to play any game sequel that fails to bring in new features. Having an extended campaign mode, with varied gameplay types and different tones is a far, far more appealing thing for a sequel than endlessly replaying the same sequences, and unfortunately the horror survival genre is one that offers too little variation to justify multiple sequels.
