Roman Reigns was almost on the cover of WWE 2K16, the wrestling observer newsletter reports. There was a push for him to be the featured star, but the ultimate feeling ended up being that Stone Cold Steve Austin would be a much better cover for promoting such a major project. It was actually Vince McMahon who personally called Austin and asked him to be on the cover of the game. Reigns being considered for something, only to lose out on it, is the story of his year. Being the cover star would have meant a lot for him, both financially and in terms of perception. The same was true of WrestleMania 31, where he was originally considered for a WWE Title win over Brock Lesnar. Just like the video game cover, he lost out on that major opportunity. Fans weren't feeling his character and it was decided to go with a heel Seth Rollins win instead. That's the real reason he didn't get the video game spot - fans just aren't that invested in him. He isn't on a level of The Rock or John Cena, who were the previous cover stars. As for Austin, he's the biggest selling character in WWE history. WWE 2K16 will undoubtedly sell more with him on the cover.
