Arriving during Nintendo's February Direct amidst bouts of laughter and confusion, a battle royale version of Tetris has taken the Nintendo Switch Online service by storm.
Available for free - providing you have a NSO subscription - Tetris 99 enters a genre thus far dominated by shooters, comprising Fortnite, Apex Legends, PUBG, H1Z1 and plenty more. They might be dominating the headlines - Apex Legends in particular keeps jostling with Fortnite's Twitch viewer figures on a daily basis, but thankfully, Nintendo and Arika (hopefully with the Tetris Company's blessing) have brought us something much more accessible.
Much like any other version of Tetris, Tetris 99 is easy to learn, but hard to master. Even more so since the developers gave nothing away in terms of how the game actually works. And I do mean, NOTHING.
We've got a main menu, a stat screen, some options and that's your lot. The depth on offer is something else though, and if you're going to take the top spot, you'll need some very specific pointers.
