The Last Of Us 2: 10 Most Shocking Moments

One of the most anticipated games of the year has a few surprises hidden up its sleeve.

The original Last Of Us is fondly remembered as not only one of the best games of the Playstation 3 era, but as one of the greatest games ever made. Seeing Joel and Ellie go through one life threatening situation after another was just as captivating as watching their bond grow stronger over the course of the game.

Many may have thought that a sequel was unnecessary and would only damage the legacy of the first title, but after seeing it sell so well, it was only natural that Naughty Dog wanted to add another chapter in this particular story.

But unlike its predecessor, the reception for The Last of Us Part 2 has not been overwhelmingly positive. Although there are elements of the game people can agree are good, like the acting and attention to detail, fans and critics are heavily divided over the story, its many plot twists and a handful of additional factors.

Although these conversations are still ongoing, let's try to at least explain what made these moments so divisive in the first place.

10. All That Misleading Marketing

A successful marketing campaign is extremely important for any game. If done correctly, it can generate a lot of hype for an upcoming release, get it trending across multiple social media platforms and even result in many gamers pre-ordering their copies months in advance. This seemed to be the case for the Last Of Us Part 2.

In late 2016, Naughty Dog revealed they were working on a sequel to The Last Of Us. As more trailers were released, fans began speculating what the story would be about, the fate of certain characters and what changes there would be to gameplay.

Unfortunately, many would be shocked to learn that the trailers had been deliberately misleading about Joel’s involvement in the story, and that Ellie was the only playable character in the game. The truth is that Joel was mostly used in flashback sequences and players would take control of Abby, a former firefly, for the back half the game.

We can understand Naughty Dog wanting to hide major spoiler moments from their fans, but the way in which they did so has left many gamers stunned and in disbelief.
