It's time to say our daily prayers to the wrestling video game gods. The first item on the agenda is appealing to the digital deities that WWE 2K22 isn't another steaming pile of pixellated sh*te like 2K20 was. That's important, not least to 2K Games and Visual Concepts. They really can't afford another slip up here.

Being totally honest, the WWE gaming audience is a patient one. No, it is - if quizzed, most would probs say that they're willing to give 2K another chance. Anxiety would kick in after a few minutes of chatter though, because there are genuine fears that this will be 2K20 2.0. It's enough to keep any self-respecting veteran of the series up at night.

Recent comments from the game's producers have done little to alleviate the stress too. They're so contradictory that it's difficult to get a read on the developer's erratic balancing act between outright embarrassment and heartfelt determination to put things right.

There are more twists and turns to this story so far than any WWE angle you'll see on TV. Here's why you should be concerned about 2K22's prospects...

10. It's Already A Scrambling Apology

2K22 will be a struggle before it even hits shelves.

Why? Well, the aforementioned need to apologise and put things right hangs over the entire project like a bad smell. 2K know fine well they f*cked things up last time with 2K20, and they also realise they've got a lot of making up to do. Anyone who shelled out big bucks on the previous game deserves a personal "we're sorry" note.

This means that the developers could scramble to shove everything positive into the game they can think of. Some might not think that sounds too bad, but it could create an over-egged mess of a title that tries to be too many things at once. Nobody wants (or needs) that when getting back to basics is so crucial.

2K and VC haven't actually come out and begged for forgiveness yet either. They're clearly banking on 2K22 being a proper apology that makes everything better. Hmm.
