WWE 2K22: 10 Reasons To Be Worried

9. Battlegrounds Is The Future?

Battlegrounds got a lot of stick for being a pick up and play button masher. Some critics viewed the game as a glorified mobile release, whereas others could see that it was a simple, straightforward arcade beat 'em up that would keep the kids busy for a few hours.

2K were very careful pre-release - they made it crystal clear what fans would be getting from Battlegrounds, and that's why the game has been a humble success. The main concern here is that 2K might see that a light-hearted, cartoonish brawler earned them some brownie points from a jaded audience and get desperate.

What if 2K22 becomes a blueprint for 2K22?

Surely not, but is anything really impossible with this series now? 2K20 blew the credibility clean off 2K's dedication to sim elements, so they may well fancy sticking with Battleground's modern update on the old WWE All Stars formula to see where that takes them.
