2024 is shaping up to be a great year for horror on the small screen.

Whilst horror movies might attract bigger stars, bigger budgets, and bigger media coverage, it's important to remember that scary stories do exist in smaller, more digestible chunks.

2023 was a great year for horror TV shows, with the likes of The Last of Us, Goosebumps, and The Fall of the House of Usher all getting rave reviews. If you were upset when those shows ended, fear not, because there's still plenty of small screen horror out there to fulfil your bloodlust.

The following twelve months are shaping up to be just as good, if not better than last year for those who like their episodic viewing with a hint of the macabre. Classic shows making their return; brand new IPs; spin-offs of existing properties; 2024 has got it all, and this list will serve as your guide for where to start.

As a disclaimer, whilst some of these shows do have a confirmed airdate, others are only vaguely scheduled for a 2024 release. The SAG-AFTRA strike last year threw a mighty spanner in the works, but fingers crossed these series actually make it to air on time.

10. Generation Z

Ben Wheatley is a British filmmaker known for directing two episodes of Doctor Who, an adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca, and Meg 2: The Trench. But please, don't hold that last one against him.

On an unspecified date in 2024, Wheatley is set to unleash a new TV show via the UK's Channel 4 and, despite its title, it's actually going to be about old people.

Generation Z is set in a small British town where an army truck accidentally crashes outside an old folks' home. This releases an experimental substance which, when it comes into to contact with the pensioners, turns them into mindless, bloodthirsty zombies.

The show will explore the generational divide present in modern society, as the town's younger residents must literally go to war with their older neighbours. Expect plenty of satire from this horror comedy, as well as jokes about how bad the elderly smell.

If you're in the mood for a horror that'll make you laugh, Generation Z looks set to tick all your boxes.

It should be better than Meg 2 at the very least.
