The modern day music festival is, without a single doubt, a sacred institution within the music industry as an entity. Finding sturdy feet in the same pre-Geldof, presumably tie-dyed 60's setting as most modern music itself, the (formerly) humble festival has grown immensely in terms of popularity over the course of the last few decades. Effectively becoming an annual coming together of like-minded music fans in most parts of the world, you haven't really had fun until you've been to one. Spectacularly unremarkable and nomadic upon their conception, the music fests of the present day are, on the contrary, high-octane, often corporately sponsored and (perhaps as a direct result of the former?) characteristically expensive affairs. Offering something for all tastes and interests however, these events still manage to note massive amounts of interest year upon year. As, once again, festival season fast approaches- patrons world-over will begin to fantasise over those long days in the sun (or, y'know- in the overcast/rain, either way), nursing flat beer and absorbing all kinds of musical excellence.
