10 Biggest WTF Moments In 2010s Rock
It may not have been that long ago, but how many of these totally mad moments do you remember?
Okay, we're out of the insanity that was the late 20th Century and we've left behind the edgy nightmare of the 2000s. We're all a bit older and a bit more civilised now, so surely rock music has finally calmed down, right? Right?!
Even in an era where streaming singlehandedly drove a dagger through the heart of the CD, and dancey synth pop ruled the airwaves, rock music still found a way to stay relevant and to stay utterly insane.
Even as social media grew in popularity and every moment of our lives got documented, rock stars still found time to have insane meltdowns on stage and put out records that no person in their right mind would even think about releasing.
Unfortunately, the decade was also not without its tragedies, so a content warning is in place for the second and third entries on this list. We discuss some very upsetting things there, so please skip them if you want.
For the rest of the list though, we're focussing on our favourite musicians doing some truly odd things. Some were harmless, some were violent, but all of them were completely off the rails.
10. Macca’s Meat Free “Rap”
Paul McCartney has had a great many extracurricular interests across his life - painting, poetry, taking enough drugs to stun a small elephant - but one that has persisted for decades is his vegetarianism.
As well as adopting the lifestyle in the 1970s, the former Beatle also had a hand in creating Linda McCartney Foods with his late wife. He is also an ardent supporter of Meat Free Mondays, an initiative designed to get people to eat one vegetarian meal once a week.
It's a nice idea, but Macca didn't do the campaign any favours when he released this bizarre video in 2014.
The Liverpool legend opens the short clip by asking people to visit a website to join the Meat Free Monday pledge. Then, out of nowhere, he bursts into what some media outlets deemed a "rap" about how people could get involved.
Calling this a rap probably sent Tupac spinning in his grave.
McCartney has done plenty of strange things over the years, but this ranks up there with the very best of then. Ultimately harmless, the Meat Free Monday "rap" caught everybody by surprise.
Hopefully it saved a few cows in the process.
