Hey, have you heard that metal band do a cover of that cheesy pop song? Such words at one time would incur the wrath of fans from all sides of these particular genres, whether it be hysterical teeny-boppers, leather-clad rock Gods, fist-pumping metalheads or face-painted creatures of the night. All of these stereotypes would most likely give you what is nowadays referred to as the Adam West response:Yet regardless of the naysayers we stand here today, continuing on from our previous installments with another ten morsels of mayhem-inducing destruction the likes of which both sides of the musical spectrum can lay down their arms and agree to pump their fists in unison to. But, unlike the prior segments dedicated to this insane mash-up of two seemingly incompatible genres, this time we are including the mainstream artists that we declined to feature before, due to a focus on lesser-known musicians. As not only a way to end our trilogy with a bang, but also a tribute to you, the reader and fans of these now infamous bands. But first, some bonus b-sides (pun intended).
Honorary Mentions Within Temptation, Various
To celebrate this Dutch metal juggernauts 15 year Anniversary, Within Temptation teamed up with Q Music radio to release a various number of pop covers over the course of 15 weeks, utilising their own brand of symphonic metal to give each one a customised metal makeover. A majority of these went on to be released on a compilation album titled The Q Music Sessions. Not unlike another artist that was mentioned in the previous article, they only get an honorary mention simply because if they were to be included wholesale, this article would have to be dedicated solely to their brilliance.
Arthemis, Various
Italian power metal band Arthemis released an 6 track EP titled Pop Up Your A*s in 2010, featuring heavy metal makeovers from some of pop's biggest stars. However to include them in our article would have them dominate the conversation, so they receive an honorary mention only.
