Early February this year Dominque Strauss-Kahn, the man tipped to become the next French president, testified in criminal court over his part in organising sex parties with prostitutes and to also stand accused of sexually assaulting a New York maid in 2011. When his car approached the court in Lille, demonstrators from the provocative group Femen bombarded the vehicle and shouted protests whilst topless. Strauss-Kahn was due to reject charges which accused him of 'pimping' as he had instigated parties which he knew involved prostitutes between 2008-2011 in Lille, Brussels, Paris and Washington DC. He rejected the charges, admitting he had took part in the parties but did not know the women participating were prostitutes. Femen is an organisation who describe themselves as 'fighting patriarchy in it's three manifestations - sexual exploitation of women and dictatorship' and that they protect women's rights by using sextremism to protest publicly. The clash between the Femen group and Strauss-Kahn outside the Lille courtroom was photographed and bought to the attention of everyone worldwide. The images appearing shocking as the half-naked women were removed with force from the area.
