HootersAnyone who's ever worked as a waitress will understand the traumas the job can bring. It's not just taking orders and carrying plates - there's a whole load of problems that come with it. More often than not, these problems are caused by the customers. In true waitress style the only solution is to smile and say - 'I'm very sorry about that Madam, what can I do to help?' Politeness never cost anything - although 9 times out of 10 you feel like adding it to their bill. For those who have only had the pleasure of dining in a restaurant. Next time you feel the need to complain about your order or ask for a refund, please remember one thing: it's not the waitresses fault. It's not all glitz and glamour, though - the truth of the matter is that it's a sweaty, dirty job. Going home with gravy down your white shirt, ketchup in your hair and grease on your apron is fairly common practice. Oh, and there's never a day off. It's a 24/7 business, every bank holiday, Christmas, New Year, Granny's birthday, family day out or date night - we're open for. So, if you've ever dreamed of becoming a waitress here's a few tips on how to make good tips...

10. Be Prepared To Be Ignored

memegenerator.netIt's inevitable that you will have at least 7 other tables to take orders from - but taking an order from 1 table has never been so painstakingly difficult. It's usually a table of gossiping girls, and by girls that's middle aged women. They appear to have not seen or spoken to each other for 10 years, the amount of information they have to deliver at top speed. All the time leaving you to stand patiently and ask if they'd like to order drinks, or food, or everything all at once so you don't have to visit them again for a while. Unfortunately they don't hear you, don't even see you through all their excitement of dining with their friends. So get used to being ignored.
