8 Ridiculous Rangers Rumours That Never Happened

Messi at Ibrox? Surely you can't be serious.

Regardless of your probably low opinion of Scottish football, there is absolutely no doubt that Rangers are one of the most successful and laudable teams in the league structure. Throughout their near-150 year history their rivalry with their Glasgow neighbours Celtic has pushed them on to incredible achievements. From winning the 1972 Cup Winners Cup with a team which included club legends John Greig and Sandy Jardine, to reaching the UEFA Cup Final in 2008, only losing out to a Zenit St. Petersburg team managed by their former boss- The Little General- Dick Advocaat, the Gers have known success and their recent off the field travails shouldn't detract from their past achievements. Rangers have also kick started the careers of some fantastic talents. From Rino (later Gennaro) Gattuso, who is a hero among the Ibrox faithful for his no-nonsense approach to the game (and life!), to more unlikely talents like Barry Ferguson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Like most clubs in the Scottish league system though, Rangers have been linked with a wide range of weird and wonderful players from all across the world, as well as some wacky nonsense like moving to the Barclays Premier League. Of course, there are plenty of these rumours which never came to fruition. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cry and some will make you dream about what might have been.
