Man Utd Transfers: David Moyes To Shake-up United's Midfield With Big Signing?

By Daniel McAleer /

New Manchester United manager David Moyes looks set to shake things up in the engine-room of the Manchester United team. After the bitter disappointment the United faithful endured during the Thiago Alcantara transfer saga, with the young, bargain-buy Spaniard instead opting to join Pep Guardiola at Bayern instead; United fans would surely view Fabregas as a very, very tasty alternative. The Red Devils reportedly made an opening-bid of around £26 million yesterday, to test the resolve of the Catalan giants. It is however thought, that a bid of around £35 million would tempt Barca in to parting ways with the 26 year-old for a second time. It is rumoured that the former Arsenal man wants to stay at his boyhood heroes but is willing to return to the Premier League, should Barcelona accept a bid. A clause in Fabregas' contract gives Arsenal first refusal on the former Skipper, should he want to re-join Wenger's ranks. With next years World Cup at the fore-front of every players mind, Fabregas has plenty of food for thought in the coming weeks.

Completing what would surely be a formidable central midfield partnership for the Red Devils, would be the signing of the towering Belgian Marouane Fellaini, from Moyes' former club Everton. Talk is rife in a number of this morning's papers, that Moyes is keen to beef-up his options in a paper-thin United midfield, with the uncertainty over Darren Fletchers health and the frustrating inconsistencies of Brazilian flop Anderson; Fellaini, a proven Premier League performer, would surely add some badly needed steel and grit to the United midfield. Moyes made Fellaini Everton's record signing when he paid Standard Liege £15 million for the 6ft 4in player in 2008, a fee of at least £25 million is rumoured to be required to tempt Everton into selling one of their greatest assets. United fans all over the world will be watching with great interest, hoping not to endure similar heartaches associated with transfer-windows of the past; having missed out on the likes of Sneijder, Hazard, Lucas Moura and now Thiago, to name just a few. Fingers and toes crossed they can pull this one off.
