Spurs: 5 Players Who Could Benefit From A Cup Run

By Scott Fitzpatrick /

In the competitive world of professional football there is always competition for places as players try to secure a spot in the first team. Unfortunately these places are only limited so certain stars will have to make do with a seat on the bench, whilst others might not even feature in a first team squad at all. This is where cup competitions can prove to be invaluable as it gives those players a chance to stake a claim for a first team place or to gain valuable experience. Here are five Tottenham Hotspur players who would benefit from an extended run in a cup competition.

5. Vlad Chiriches

The young Romanian is included on the list due to his inexperience in English football and the defenders in front of him in the moment. With Jan Vertonghen, Michael Dawon and Younes Kaboul ahead of him, Chriches is the fourth choice central defender at White Hart Lane this season. Playing in the League cup will give him the opportunity to adapt to the English game whilst possibly developing an understanding with the aforementioned defenders. He looked good when he played against Anzhi in Moscow on Thursday as he helped Spurs to a 2-0 win in Russia and the cups are likely to be his best chance at first team football unless Vertonghen or Dawson get injured.
