Spurs Transfers: Ranking Villas Boas' Signings From Worst To Best

By William S Carter /

As the transfer window slammed shut at 11:00pm on Monday, fans of all the different Premier League teams would've had contrasting emotions with regards to how their team fared. Some would've been happy and contented; yet some would've undoubtedly been disappointed, angry and very frustrated. One set of fans that will surely fall in the former bracket are those of Tottenham Hotspur. It must be said that this success is down to the transfer strategy of both manager Andre Villas Boas and Daniel Levy. In their heart of hearts, they were fighting a losing battle with Real Madrid in their pursuit of Gareth Bale and knowing that he departure was imminent, both Villas Boas and Levy came up with a contigency plan: to try to soften the blow of Bale leaving. So, in that way, Spurs were set free by knowing Bale's sale would bring in a hefty sum of money, so they were allowed to spend big in this window and boy did they do that. 7 players bought for a combined sum of over £100 million, mainly to bolster the attacking front of the team, but a couple to maintain balance in the team and to prevent the leakage of goals conceded. So, when the inevitable happened last Sunday and Bale left for Madrid, they had given the fans plenty of optimism over the future direction of the team post-Bale. With that in mind, here we take a look at the best of Spurs' signings in descending order.
