Everyone loves a goal scorer. Whether it is Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, or back when I was growing up the other Ronaldo (the Brazilian one), there is nothing that most football fans admire more than a person who puts a ball into the back of a net. While I always appreciate a well-placed header or an excellently taken free kick Ive always most admired the individuals who are responsible for preventing those goal-scoring chances from occurring - the players who do all the dirty work and usually go unrecognized. These are the types of characters that put their heads down and make crunching tackles and well-timed interceptions as they sacrifice themselves for the team. They are the defensive midfielders. Sure, they go forward and score sometimes but their role is to win the ball for their team. And it is with that note that I must pay tribute to Massimo Ambrosini, who is truly one of the last of his kind. AC Milan recently chose not to renew their captain's contract, marking the end of an era for a certain type of footballer. He is now seemingly on the verge of joining West Ham United. The following are 5 reasons fans everywhere should pay tribute to this underestimated player.
