It’s recently been announced that Marvel is developing a spin-off for the popular Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series. This has left many buzzing about what the spin-off could possibly be.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is quickly becoming a much smaller place. Daredevil has already swung into his own Netflix series, with fellow street heroes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist following in the near future. This means that those four are out.

The spin-off is said to come out of developments of the current season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. So unless there are some surprises in the remaining episodes of this season, it seems unlikely for other popular street heroes like Moon Knight or the Punisher to be the subject of the new series.

Most of the focus this season has been on the introduction of the Inhumans and that means the series might be tied to them. But the Inhumans are scheduled to get their own feature film in 2018. While it’s possible Marvel will have an Inhumans TV show lead into a movie, it’s probably unlikely.

There are some other potential contenders for the series. Here are ten possibilities that could be in the sights for Marvel’s next foray into television.

10. Runaways

One of the most popular groups of new characters in recent years, the Runaways are a team of six teenagers with wealthy parents. Their parents would meet at an annual charity event and, one year, the kids inadvertently witnessed their parents sacrifice a girl in an occult ceremony.

They then learned that their parents were the Pride, a criminal group of mad scientists, time travellers, sorcerers, aliens, and mutants.

The kids - Alex Wilder, Nico Minoru, Karolina Dean, Gertrude Yorkes, Chase Stein, and Molly Hayes -band together to fight their parents and atone for their sins. In the process, some discover they have powers of their own, while others utilise resources stolen from their parents.

Of all the selections on the list, Runaways may have the most tenuous connection to the current season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but there are ways it could be made to work. Recent episodes revealed that Coulson could be tracking down people with powers, but there’s no guarantee that those with powers will agree to work with him.

The Runaways could, through Coulson, discover who their parents really are and then, frightened, run off on their own. It’s something of a long shot, but not outside of the realms of possibility.
