10 Majorly Hyped TV Series That Disappointed Us
These ones were not worth getting excited for!
The modern landscape of TV is not what it used to be. Now, that doesn't mean things were better "back in the old days", rather that today's viewers are completely spoiled for choice. Simply put, TV has become a much bigger and better medium, raking in larger budgets, ad campaigns, stars and production companies, turning it into one of the biggest industries in the entertainment world.
You can mostly thank streaming for this, with sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney + (oh, we'll be getting to you soon), constantly searching for the next Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad by throwing everything they've got into new shows and IPs. This means that any new series with the right backing can start running a hype train that grabs everyone's attention, but sadly, the destination isn't always what you'd hope.
It can be incredibly frustrating when you're excited for a new series, only to find out that it doesn't live up to your expectations. Unfortunately, the promise of something great and the delivery of something mediocre has happened far more times than viewers would have hoped, and the following are some prime examples...
10. Iron Fist
Marvel's repertoire with Netflix series' was already doing well by the time Iron Fist was announced, and as such, it was easy to squeeze your way into the excitement bubble. If Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were epic and fun, surely this kick-ass martial arts hero could be too. Oh, how naïve fans were.
Iron Fist got a solid amount of traction and advertisement going for it. Its joint collaboration between Marvel and Netflix meant that it was on everyone's radar. Plus, it even managed to sneak in a little bit of Game of Thrones fame, thanks to the leading character being played by Loras Tyrell himself (aka Finn Jones), who seemed primed for a big-time hit.
Then, the show came out, and it was - rather poetically - a massive kick to the gut. While many people praised the action sequences, it still felt lacklustre compared to its grounded and well-written peers like Jessica Jones and Daredevil. Also, Finn Jones's Danny Rand was Danny Bland, making it almost impossible to invest in the series, as the main character just didn't live up to the Marvel standard.
Overall, not a good look for Netflix or Marvel.
