George R.R. Martin has made it clear that he took inspiration from real world events when composing his A Song Of Ice And Fire series, but while true history has been used, it's intriguing to see modern day Britain played out perfectly on screen in Game of Thrones. The American author loosely based the theme of the series around the War of the Roses, fought between 1455-1487 in medieval Britain, with the two sides being the Houses York and Lancaster - already you'll see the similarity of Stark and Lannister. But while the events in the show are inspired by history, there are definite deviations and nothing is strictly copied from real life, no matter how much Snoop Dogg watches "it for historic reasons, to try to understand what this world was based on before I got here. I like to know how we got from there, to here, and the similarities between then and now." In creating the TV series though, a combination of Martin and the show's producers have created a perfect glimpse of modern Britain, whether they intended to or not. Let's take a look at some of the most striking similarities between the Seven Kingdoms, and the United Kingdom.
