Arrow's seventh season has been, for the most part, the show's strongest outings in years, so it's safe to say there was a lot riding on its finale.

From the moment that 'You Have Saved This City' opened, it was clear that the writers were determined to offer up worthy conclusions to all of the season's main storylines, utilising both the present-day and flash-forward narratives to do just that.

The story centred on Emiko's plan to destroy her brother's legacy as she unleashed a virus on the citizens of Star City. However, flanked by his allies (both old and new), the Green Arrow rose to the challenge one more time - just as his successors did in the future - and ended the Ninth Circle's reign of terror. But not even he could prepare for the surprise that was waiting for him in the episode's closing moments.

All in all, 'You Have Saved This City' was more focused on setting up the show's final season than tying up this year's storylines. Thus, while it was a fitting culmination for some of the characters involved, it wasn't quite able to give Season 7 the ending that it deserved.
