Ever since Batwoman arrived on our screens, the show has made it very clear that it's currently in a state of transition.

Sure, Kate Kane returned from wherever it was that she was training to do whatever it was she wanted to do in order to save the love of her life from a woman that may well be her supposedly dead twin sister - and she ended up donning her cousin's iconic Bat-suit to do it. However, completely removed from the fact that she's inadvertently been inspiring a city, Kate has very much been playing Batman in a bid to figure out the truth about Alice. But was "Batman" really who she wanted to be?

It's ironic that, after two narrative-heavy episodes, it's a relatively standalone adventure like 'Down, Down, Down' that ultimately forces Kate to confront the possibility of being a hero - but it's effective in doing so as the character realises that she can track down Alice and inspire people at the same time.

'Down, Down, Down' was, in many ways, the birth of Batwoman. But not just the character, as the show itself is now aware of what it is and, even though it's not all perfect, there is still hope that this reinvention will allow it to continue that upward trajectory towards greatness.
